What
is Manual lymphatic drainage?
Manual
lymphatic drainage or MLD, is a form of very light rhythmical massage,
that encourages stimulation of the lymphatic system. It is a very
specific technique of manual body massage therapy.
The lymphatic system has a vital role in the body by regulating the
immune system, which protects the body against infection. It transports
nutrients to cells and eliminates metabolic wastes, toxins and excess
fluids from the body. It is also a very effective way of detoxing
the body plus stimulating vital immune defences.
This is a powerful, deep cleansing treatment. Using a light touch,
the therapist helps to clear areas of congestion and stagnation. It
is a great addition to other detox measures. It helps to tone the
skin and to reduce puffiness and can help to rid the body of the last
remains of a cold.
.
What happens during an MLD treatment?
At
your first appointment you will be asked questions about your health
and lifestyle. This is an important aspect of treatment as it is beneficial
for the therapist to have an understanding of all factors that may
be affecting your health, including how you are physically and emotionally.
The therapist does not rely on external aids. Only the hands are used.
This is a powerful, deep cleansing massage technique.
Who can be helped by an MLD treatment?
Most
people can benefit from an Mld treatment. Conditions that can
benefit range from; headache, indigestion, skin disorders, PMT, cellulite,
sinus congestion to name but a few. MLD is a great addition to other
detox measures. A series of treatments in early spring may also help
to minimise the symptoms of hayfever later in the summer.
How many treatments will l need?
This
varies from person to person; often some effects are felt after
one treatment but a series of treatments may be needed to make a
significant change in the condition. A 'one-off ' is pleasant and
great
for stress, but if you want to build up your immune system, or deal
with more serious problems (i.e.sinusitis/fluid congestion /detox/
cellulite/stress) a course of treatments would be beneficial.

Manual
Lymphatic Drainage It is an advanced therapy developed by Dr.Emil
Vodder in the 1930's. The method, which is within the broad framework
of classic massage, uses a very light rhythmical massage, that encourages
stimulation of the lymph flow. The aim of MLD is to
increase lymph flow and reabsorption from the tissues without increasing
filtration.
MLD
is gentle and deeply relaxing, it gives a greater sense of well being,
no oils of any kind are used during the treatment.

The
secret of beautiful skin and a cellulite free body is to make sure
your internal spring cleaning is regularly attended to. The body's
ability to detoxify itself and keep vital organs free of waste is
remarkable, but sometimes it needs help. At the hands of a qualified
therapist, a regular lymphatic drainage massage is probably the most
effective help.
